Welcome…

…to CERB, the Containing Extremism Research Briefing, a resource for those seeking to understand contemporary political extremism.

It is a growing database of summaries of recent research articles. In a concise and readable way, it presents findings from academic studies of violent or potentially violent extremisms. New summaries are continuously added, and a quarterly newsletter flags up recent additions to the database. (To receive the newsletter, email us at containingextremism@gmail.com with “Subscribe” in the subject field.)

CERB is of value, we hope, to people professionally engaged in responding to extremism as a potential threat to security or to democratic process, and to journalists who report on it, as well as being of interest to academics and students. There is a very large academic literature on all aspects of extremism. By offering clear and jargon-free digests of specific recent papers, CERB hopes to provide a useful resource for non-academics. Each digest offers a short summary of an article, plus a commentary on its possible implications.
